In the autumn of 1940 Carl Malmsten inaugurated his own shop on Strandvägen 5b. Every morning he took the hour-long walk from his home in Bergshamra into town – and all the way back again in the evening.
More than 80 years later, the store is a natural meeting point for everyone who loves Carl Malmsten's furniture. Malmstenbutiken is today the only place in the world that shows all the designs that are in production. In recent years, the store has received international attention and is ranked as one of the world's most inspiring design stores.
The store sells both Carl Malmsten's own furniture and selected furniture from other Swedish furniture companies, together with beautiful interior details for the home. Here you will of course find classics such as the armchair Jättetodan and the beautiful plant screens, but also newly launched Malmsten furniture such as the sofa Lundeqvist, Pallen Putte, the cabinet Jönköping and our new luminaire in Flora collection.
In the shop you can also dress up your Malmsten furniture, sew up curtains and get professional help to decorate your home. Here is a large selection of other exciting interior details, such as fashion designer Raf Simon's furniture fabrics for Kvadrat, a fine selection of different carpet collections from Kvadrat and Tisca. A wide variety of interior design products designed by Swedish designers such as Eva Schildt, Carina Seth Andersson, Susanne Beskow, Jonas Bolin, Eric Ericson, Broberg & Ridderstråle, Cecilia Carlstedt and many many more.
Malmstenbutiken also creates interiors and custom-made furniture for both private individuals and companies – for example Restaurant Soldaten Svejk on Södermalm, Hotell Åregården in Åre and The Berkeley Hotel in London.
